Introduction

The first floodplain management ordinance was adopted by Pima County in 1974. Since that time, the ordinance has undergone numerous revisions as the District strives to:

  • Remain current with best floodplain management practices,
  • Improve the public health, safety, and welfare,
  • Remain in compliance with federal regulations, and
  • Add clarity to the ordinance.

Each of these are reasons for the current proposed revision of the Floodplain and Erosion Hazard Management Ordinance 2005-FC2 (FEHMO 2005-FC2). For the purposes of the discussion below, references to a specifically adopted floodplain ordinance will be referred to by FEHMO followed by the year and action number of that ordinance (e.g. FEHMO 2005-FC2), non-specific references to the ordinance, will use "Ordinance."

This page will be updated with information such as public comment opportunities, an overview of the revisions, and other pertinant information as it becomes available.

An Ordinance Revisions Information Sheet outlining the more significant proposed revisions has been created.
