

DO find out the floodplain status and other flooding information
PRIOR to purchasing or renting land, houses or businesses.
DO elevate the floor level of all newly constructed buildings above
anticipated flood levels.
DO get floodplain information and floodplain use permits prior to
any development in floodprone areas.
DO provide drainage away from structures on your property.
DO build with flood proof materials when any portion of a structure
is below flood level.
DO be prepared in the event of a flood.

DON'T build structures close to a wash; at some point in time
they may be flooded.
DON'T divert drainage onto your neighbor's property this is
an illegal activity and the results can be disastrous.
DON'T block washes with fences debris will catch on fences and
divert water where it is least expected.
DON'T install air conditioners, evaporative coolers, electrical service
boxes,water heaters or other appliances below the base flood depth.
DON'T risk your life by walking or driving around barricaded dip
sections or across flooded washes they're dangerous! Six inches of
moving water can knock you off your feet. Two feet of water can carry your
car away.
